At the Impact Manufacturing, Mechanics, and Materials Design (IM³D) Lab, “Impact” defines our mission. We focus on advancing manufacturing, mechanics, and materials design for extreme loading (impact) conditions. Our research centers on impact-driven manufacturing processes—such as high velocity impact welding and cold spray additive manufacturing—as well as the mechanics of materials under extreme deformation, strain rates, and environments. We also design and engineer materials tailored for high-performance applications in extreme service conditions.
